t219 Huka Falls_Rapid_Thermal Pool

 Huka Falls lookout walk
These are the largest falls on the Waikato River and amongst the most impressive in New Zealand. The water flows down a series of waterfalls, finishing with a 12 meter drop.

There are several lookout points to view the spectacular Huka Falls

The incredible volume of water tumbling over the falls is due to the Waikato River being forced through a channel of hard rock only 15 m wide and 10 m deep.

Aratiatia Rapids lookout walk
The Aratiatia Rapids were the largest in Australasia(泛指澳洲、紐西蘭及附近南太平洋諸島)
the Waikato River dropping 28 metres in just one kilometre.
Today their full potential can still be seen during the scheduled daily releases. Each release lasts 15 minutes.

Opening times: 10 am; 12 noon; 2 pm (and also 4 pm 1 October - 31 March)

Three viewpoints, Lower Viewpoint, Mid Viewpoint and Top Viewpoint.
