Mt Burns Track
An enjoyable tramping track leads from the Borland Saddle through the bush to the open, tussock-covered tops of Mt Burns. The alpine tarns (lakes) and unique views and enjoying array of alpine plants are well worth the steep climb.

Around 12,000 to 13,000 years ago the earth shook as 27 cubic km of faulted from ancient earth movements were undermined by a shrinking glacier and shaken by an earthquake. This is the largest documented landslides in the world.

Lake Monowai Peninsula Lookout Track
A pleasant, short walking track leads from the carpark at Lake Monowai, through mature beech forest to a rest area overlooking the lower reaches of the lake.
Lake Monowai is a great spot for boating, kayaking, fishing and family camping
This lake was one of the first in New Zealand to be controlled for hydro-electric power production – it was raised 2.5 metres in 1926.
