Walpole-Nornalup National Park

Walpole-Nornalup National Park contains many pristine forests and areas with little evidence of human activity.  The park is probably best known for the huge buttressed red tingle trees, which are unique to the Walpole area.
我們造訪了Giant Tingle Tree Loop Walk, Tree Top Walk - Ancient Empire Walk和Circular pool重要的幾點

Giant Tingle Tree Loop Walk
The walk leads to the Giant Tingle Tree, the largest documented girth (24 metres) of any living eucalypt anywhere in the world. The large buttresses which spread from the base of the trees are tremendous.

up to 75m tall

Tingle trees often have hollow bases that are caused by fire which is a natural part of environment in which they grow. The wood is strong and even a relatively thin shell will support the tree and continue to grow.

Tree Top Walk - Ancient Empire Walk
Tree Top Walk
The Tree Top Walk is an internationally recognised nature-based tourism attraction. Experience the excitement of walking 600-metre long 40 metres high through the canopy of the tingle forest and enjoy the majestic views to core wilderness areas.

It's special because of the Giant Tingle Trees and the architecturally designed pathway which takes you gradually into their giant forest canopy

walking through the trunks of the trees and into the upper canopy is amazing

At about forty metres, the view is breathtaking

The treetop walk is actually a series of lightweight steel trusses built on steel pylons to form a circut 420 metre long leading over a deep red tinge gully.
Most similar canopy walks around the world are constructed using suspension bridge-type structures - not for the faint of heart

Ancient Empire Walk
The Ancient Empire Walk is a 450m ground walk amongest the red tingles. The Ancient Empire boardwalk can get up close to the giants of the forest

Burls - The irregular bulges on the trunks of some of the tingle trees are caused by insect, mite, becterial or fungal attack. Thie damage initiates the production of plant growth hormones and the tree forms a protective growth around the wound like a scab or scar on human skin. It's fascinating how these burls give each tree a unique character.

Grandman tingle - The burls and gnarled bark of this distinctive red tingle tree give it an almost human character, a female, grandmotherly character. It's almost as if she is watching over the forest, observing all those who enter it. it's 12m in circumference and more than 400 years old.

Circular pool
A delightful place to enjoy the forest. As the water tumbles over rocksit chums up the samonin in the water and makes a very natural 'cappuccino'

The foam is a result of saponin which is a class of chemical compounds found in plants

dense foam

The foam actually gets stained by the eucalypt leaves in the water and looks like a cinnamon topping on the cappuccino-like frothy foam..
