Torndirrup National Park

At Torndirrup National Park, windswept coastal heaths give way to massive granite outcrops, sheer cliffs and steep sandy slopes and dunes. The Southern Ocean has sculpted a Natural Bridge in the coastal granites and formed The Gap, where the waves rush in and out with tremendous ferocity. The Blowholes, a crackline in the granite, 'blows' air and occasionally spray. The noise is quite impressive.

Natural Bridge

The Natural Bridge is a granite formation caused by the gradual wearing away of the rock by the Great Southern Ocean. The natural bridge formation is a reminder of the power of the ocean. Over time, the ocean has carved a bridge into the rock face.

It is clear to see exactly how as the waves came rolling across the sea and into the hole it has created. Splash!!!

Gneisses can be recognised by the 'stripey' pattern within them, caused by layers of different coloured minerals

Stony Hill Heritage Trail
An easy circuit trail leads to one of the highest points in the park from which many features of the southern coastline and interior can be viewed.
