St Arnaud Range Track

Kerr Bay of Lake Rotoiti


St Arnaud Range 
the ridge line (1650m) is our disternation


Beginning in the eastern corner of Kerr Bay


through beech forest


red beech at lower section


mosses covering ground and beach forest when getting higher







silver beech when getting higher up



finally the hardy mountain beech taking over near the bushline





good views above the bushline

snow tussock, sub-alpine shrubs taking over above bushline


The  spurs of St Arnaud Range are evidence of  glacial action at higher altitude


more than 200 metres of climbing from bushline to the ridge.
